AMHERST, NH - Auriga software engineers acting as contractors for Pilot Software Acquisition Corp. (Pilot Software) have contributed to the release of Pilot BusinessAnalyzer version 8.0 by developing a Web-based Excel Add-in, a new advanced functionality of Pilot's browser-based business intelligence solution aimed at simplifying business analytics for both business and technical users.
Pilot BusinessAnalyzer is a rapidly maturing product with a design that builds time intelligence directly into its OLAP engine and a unique approach to caching. Version 8.0 delivers scalability and performance enhancements to support larger dimensions and improved query response and consolidation times. The Web-based Excel Add-in developed by Auriga's engineering team is a new feature of the product that provides access to the hybrid OLAP (HOLAP) database via an Internet connection. The new capability gives managers the Excel Add-in functionality they rely on in a zero-maintenance Web environment. Multi-dimensional data is now available for analysis in Excel wherever users access the Web.
"The major task was to realize the product's rich functionality through
the HTTP protocol," said Alex Beliakov, the leader of Auriga's
three-member engineering team involved in the Pilot Software projects in
Moscow. "Unlike the client-server architecture, the HTTP is a stateless
protocol with no context. Due to this factor and because of the limited
speed of data transfer, we had to perform a part of the server
functionality on the client end and at the final stage to optimize
"transactions" (queries) to the Pilot Internet Publisher, which is a
middle tier of the system between the client and HOLAP."
"We are proud to have contributed to the new version of Pilot Software's BusinessAnalyzer," said Igor Pochinok, Director of Contract Programming at Auriga. "This is an accomplishment that reflects Auriga's commitment to our effective partnership with Pilot Software."
Auriga's engineering team located in Moscow has been involved in Pilot Software projects since 1999. At an early stage of Auriga/ Pilot Software partnership, Pilot outsourced support and maintenance of its Command Center Plus (CCPlus) product line to Auriga's software development center in Moscow, Russia. Auriga's team successfully implemented the project ahead of time, having exceeded the customer's expectations in quality as well. It motivated Pilot to enlarge the Russian team to do new projects for it and to entrust Auriga engineers with complicated software development tasks. Since then, the relationship between the two companies has grown to the point where Pilot Software views its Auriga team as a remote extension of its internal development organization. Beside Pilot BusinessAnalyzer, Auriga team is currently engaged in software development for Pilot HitList, Pilot Software's Web site analysis solution for companies with growing Internet initiatives.
Pilot Software has over 15 years experience in business intelligence. In 2000, it was acquired by Accrue Software Inc., but was subsequently sold off in June last year. BusinessAnalyzer is the fourth major product release since Pilot's latest inception.
