At the end of October, Auriga’s experts took part in one of the key events in the software development industry in Eastern Europe: the Central & Eastern European Software Engineering Conference in Russia (CEE-SECR 2014). This year, Auriga’s engineers gave five presentations at the conference, one of the highest numbers among the companies that participated in the event this year. All five presentations attracted the interest of the packed audience.
The keynote and invited speakers at the CEE-SECR 2014 included Robert Farish (Vice President and Regional Managing Director, CIS, IDC), Dino Esposito (Technical Evangelist, JetBrains), David Garlan (Professor, Carnegie Mellon University), Mickey W. Mantle (CEO, Wanderful, Inc.), Richard Soley (Chairman and CEO OMG®), and other authority figures of the IT world from Russia, Europe, and the US.
The panel discussion Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) that discussed the trends and prospects of online training attracted the most interest. The participants and visitors of the event voted for the most interesting presentations: “Self-healing Systems” (David Garlan, Carnegie Mellon University), “Never Mind the Mobile Web; Here’s the Device Web” (Dino Esposito, JetBrains), “The War for Talent in the Silicon Valley” (Natasha Mantle, Alexander & Krol LLC), “Impact of Exponential Technology on Health Care. Change of Mindsets Is Needed” (Paul Epping, Philips HTS), and others.
Dino Esposito, Technical Evangelist of JetBrains and the author of several .NET books published by Microsoft Press, shared his impressions of the event:
What most struck me in this conference was the excellent quality of some talks. They were not simply technical showcases of features, techniques, and products—which would be very useful indeed—but fully inspirational talks and faithful reports from the trenches of everyday work. These days, it’s so easy to find tons of posts, tutorials, and articles to explain the hows; it’s much harder to get inspired instead. This is today the primary goal of a technical software conference.
Auriga’s engineers also noted the great organization of the event, quality and wide range of presentations, and dynamic target audience. According to them, the main advantage of the conference is the opportunity to network with like-minded people, colleagues, and competition. Here, one can receive information about the main trends of key industries relevant to the company’s activities and at the same time “peek” into industries that seem interesting and exciting. Events like CEE-SECR allow you to feel the trends and encourage new thoughts, ideas, plans, and solutions.
