Auriga Develops an Application for Google Glass

“The Internet of Things will change everything—including ourselves,” says Dave Evans, Cisco’s Chief Futurist.  Indeed, the Internet of Things is one of the key terms used today in the area of information technologies. Cars, watches, ATMs, washing machines, refrigerators, numerous sensors—all of these smart devices connected to the Internet have been created to simplify our lives.

Looking into the future, Cisco IBSG predicts there will be around 25 billion devices connected to the Internet by 2015, and by 2020, this number will reach 50 billion, whereas the market volume will hit the 19 trillion US dollar mark. In other words, the Internet of Things is not just another buzzword destined to disappear in a couple of years without making any huge difference.

The Internet of Things is the latest technology revolution, the highlight of all the large industry events, including MWC, Interop, and EE Live!, as witnessed by Auriga’s experts. It makes sense that many companies are reevaluating their market positions and reviewing their growth plans, changing the functionality of their products on the fly.

For Auriga, as a software developer, this situation creates new opportunities to gain unique experience and expertise and to prove our leadership in the industry and our competence in tackling complex R&D tasks. That’s why we are very grateful to one of our clients—a US energy sector company—for which we recently developed a Google Glass-based innovative application.

Initially, the customer tasked Auriga to develop a web-based, mobile-optimized multi-tier application for employees working at the client’s side. The application is a fully functional mobile version of the flagship customer’s solution to be used on smartphones and tablets. Currently, one of the modules of the developed application deals with the Google Glass platform. This unique solution allows users to create executive summaries that include photos, voice memos, and comments and transfer this data to the cloud server in real time for further processing. Moreover, voice memos are converted into text ones using the Google Speech-to-Text service. The efficiency of our engineers and the quality of the R&D done by Auriga were highly regarded by the customer, and currently, our team is continuing research on the potential of Google Glass to enhance the app’s functionality and increase its marketability.

This project was another opportunity for Auriga to work with the most cutting-edge and unique technologies. Earlier, in 2012, our engineers launched a project that featured Tizen-based development, just a week after the official release of this OS beta-version. Besides Tizen, Auriga’s employees have had a chance to work with other innovative platforms and equipment that have not hit the market yet, including the implementation of a software development project for hardware, the prototype of which became available in vivo just half a year after the project had begun.

If you have a challenging task, an innovative project, or an idea for a software product, Auriga’s experts would be happy to estimate the project’s costs and draw up a technical proposal with the description of the architecture for the solution and technologies for its implementation.
