Auriga Participated in 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

In 2013, the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, the oldest in Russia, celebrated its 50th anniversary. During this time, it proved to be one of the leading academic departments of Nizhny Novgorod State University.

The faculty of computational mathematics and cybernetics trains specialists in applied mathematics and computing, applied information science, and information technologies. The faculty’s graduates are in high demand in the labor market.

The faculty works closely with the leading IT companies in Russia and abroad, including such companies as Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Cisco Systems, and of course, Auriga.

Fifty years is a significant milestone, and celebrations were carried out in style and, at the same time, to good purpose.

They started on December 1 with formal congratulations and an event for alumni. Ildar Gabdullin, the Head of Auriga Nizhny Novgorod Development Center, congratulated the faculty on behalf of Auriga.

Auriga also participated in the career fair that was organized on the same day for senior students.

AurigaWithin the frame of the anniversary events, Auriga held a workshop for students and postgraduates focused on the following topics:

  • A theory behind face detection, age/gender classification, and tracking
  • Implementation of some of these algorithms for mobile operating systems. Various performance optimizations were discussed, including parallel execution using threads and NEON instructions.
  • Overview of free face detection frameworks on mobile devices, such as OpenCV library and Android face detection API.

The workshop was held by Igor Markov based on his presentation for SECR 2013, which was recognized as one of the 15 best regular presentations. Igor presented the information in an engaging way—in addition to discussing theoretical material, every participant got a chance to see how the app works and make sure that the recognition is indeed carried out correctly.
