Auriga’s Year in Review: Six Highlights of 2021

In 2021, we celebrated Auriga’s anniversary. Over the last 30 years, we have evolved from a small embedded development services boutique into a large global company with 600+ employees, seven engineering centers, and over 100 projects annually. We received many kind words from our colleagues, current and ex-partners, and customers during the year. To each of you, Auriga sends its most heartfelt thanks!

Looking back on 2021, we would say it was challenging not only for us but for the whole world. It was a year of a bitter fight with the global pandemic that, in a way, shaped Auriga’s strategic development, highlighting healthcare and medical software engineering, which has been one of our focus domains since 2003.

Despite the challenges, it’s time to sum up the results and share with you the most outstanding milestones of the year.

New Approach to Client Search

It has become vitally important for companies to continuously inspect the changing market and get to know their existing and potential clients in these trying times. We marked the year 2021 with a change in our approach, shifting our focus to searching for potential partners rather than just customers. Building strategic partnerships is the most efficient method of collaboration in this unstable, changing environment. We don’t just deliver software engineering services anymore; instead, we try to establish long-lasting, trust-based relationships where each party feels safe and supported.

Svetlana Anishchenko, Director of Marketing at Auriga, commented:

The new processes introduced in our Marketing and Business Development departments will enable us to develop a more personalized approach to our clients, focusing even more on the individual needs and demands of every one of them. We thoroughly aligned our sales and marketing efforts to plan the long-term development of our relationships and make them consistent and predictable.”

Certification

In November 2021, Auriga’s quality management system successfully passed the audit executed by a certification authority and proved its viability and compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 requirements. It confirms that Auriga performs the development and testing of medical device software according to the international standards’ requirements that guarantee the safety and quality of the engineering processes.

Commenting on the certification results, Leonid Migunov, Head of Quality Management Programs at Auriga, said:

The audit helped us again prove that we are a mature company always attending to the quality of all the aspects of our job. Having our compliance with the industry standards and our QMS reliability confirmed has given us a definite competitive edge in the market, which will help us grow further and deepen our expertise in medical software engineering.”

Engineering Department Reorganization

Auriga has grown significantly in numbers over the last year, especially in its Engineering department. The company’s rapid growth caused the engineering management team’s focus to shift to operational processes, while the company’s strategic objectives were sidelined. To focus more on Auriga’s strategic growth in its focus domains – embedded, business app, and medical software development – we have established a whole new position within the Engineering department—the Engineering Division Manager. Elena Baranova, Auriga’s Director of Engineering, made the following comment:

Two brilliant project managers were already assigned to the position of Engineering Division Manager. Denis Tyurin is now responsible for embedded and system-level systems development, while Sergey Karpushin is in charge of the business applications development stream. Both are mature technical managers with successful backgrounds. Now their main goals will be to enhance the productivity of the engineering teams, support our Business Development department in their activities, and define the development strategy for each division.”

Changes in HR Department

It is no secret that the global crisis has dramatically impacted the IT labor market. The number of STEM graduates is insufficient to satisfy the growing needs of IT companies worldwide. Auriga enhanced the existing processes and introduced new ones in our Human Resources (HR) department and Training Center to address the challenge and grow further in these uncertain times. We augmented the HR team with experienced corporate culture specialists responsible for staff retention. Meanwhile, our Training Center, which has been running for 15 years already, together with Auriga’s Engineering department, started developing and implementing new advanced courses for both Auriga’s current employees and potential candidates.

Liubov Khripko, Deputy HR Director of Auriga, said:

We wanted to stay proactive, even in the situation of the current IT labor market crisis. As they say, sink or swim. With the given scenario, we are sure that IT companies should take responsibility and grow specialists by themselves, demonstrating a willingness to support beginners in their first steps in IT.”

Talking at Global Conferences

We paid particular attention to major global conferences of 2021 within Auriga’s strategic domains – embedded systems and medical software engineering. Auriga exhibited at the “embedded world 2021 DIGITAL”, a major trade fair for embedded system technologies, held virtually this year due to the pandemic. Being an active member of the embedded community, Auriga exhibited its expertise and service offerings for the embedded systems market at a virtual booth.

Our talk at the European Medical Device Software Development and Compliance Virtual Conference came as another highlight of the year. Andrey Shastin, Auriga’s Head of Global Business Development in the medical and embedded systems domains, and Airat Sadykov, Senior Project Manager in medical systems, talked about implementing cost-effective test automation approaches to ensure software quality and compliance. The video of the session is available on our website.

Speaking of healthcare, this December, we are participating in the NG Healthcare Digital Summit, where we will present our expertise in digital healthcare and telemedicine to the US audience. During the event, companies will have a chance to discuss Auriga’s experience and receive consultation on their upcoming projects.

Andrey Shastin commented on the events:

Embedded systems and medical software engineering are the domains we have always considered as our primary areas of expertise. Such industry-significant events allow us to showcase and share our vast expertise, while their digital format makes it easier to communicate with more people and contact more companies worldwide. Our experience at tradeshows and conferences in 2021 encouraged us to widen our expertise further and share it with the world.”

Once Again Among Outsourcing Leaders

In 2021, Auriga was featured among the world’s best software service providers on the Global Outsourcing 100® list of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) for the fourteenth consecutive year. Auriga gained unique distinction for its customer references, awards and certifications, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs.

In addition to the GO100, Auriga received recognition for “Excellence in Strategic Partnerships” this August. The judgment for the selection was based on the following criteria: collaborative problem solving, the impact of the innovation involved, and the outcomes and resulting value achieved.

Vyacheslav Vanyulin, Auriga’s CEO, commented on the company’s achievements:

We are honored to be listed in the Global Outsourcing 100® list for the 14th successive year and to receive a special distinction for our customer references, awards and certifications, and CSR initiatives. We want to express our gratitude to the judges for this high recognition. Such remarkable achievements encourage us to continue improving our services and increase the value we provide for our customers.”

Happy New Year 2022!

A year of big changes, 2021 was challenging but significant for Auriga. We are sure that the implemented innovations will drive the company forward and lead us to a better future. We wish you a calm and stable New Year, but remember that as Winston Churchill once said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.”
